I can’t believe I’m nearing the end of The Josei Alphabet, but there are only five letters left. So it behooves me to start thinking of the next tour from A to Z. I’m currently vacillating between two choices: a “favorites” alphabet where I list my best-loved book that starts with a given letter, or an Awful Alphabet, where I go in what we might call a different direction. But what would you like to see in the next alphabet?
Hm… With the “Awful Alphabet,” would you be looking at unlicensed properties that seem awful or licensed ones that you know for a fact are awful?
You could do a Classics Alphabet or something.
For the awful, I’d probably confine myself to warning about stuff that I’ve actually read. Of course, if someone has suffered through an unlicensed title in a given letter, they’d be heartily encouraged to issue a warning!
I actually like the idea of an awful alphabet. What if you did one for series only released after 2000.
I like the idea of an aweful alphabet. How about a yuri or yaoi alphabet? I don’t really know much about those 2 genres, and there’s a lot of unlicensed content, so there would be a lot to learn!
Awful! Awful! There’s so much *good* manga out there, licensed and unlicensed, that it’s fun to find some of the hideous ones.
Either way I go, I would certainly be relying on folks adding their own choices in the comments.

Oh, i like “BL-phabet” just for the way it sounds in my head. And I could always fixate on the kind of BL I like to read. Hmmm….
Since we seem to have the same taste in BL so far (eg Yoshinaga Fumi, Saika Kunieda), that would be an awesome arrangement!
I’d like to second the suggestion for a BL-phabet. I understand the points about it being women’s fantasy and all, but that shouldn’t mean a GLBT reaction isn’t allowed any less than a feminist…couldn’t objectively look at fanservice? I…can’t…follow the thread…of all my negatives…brain…hurting…so much…
Anyhow, as a free speech supporter and a bisexual, I don’t buy the argument that a BL safe space for women means a GLBT perspective isn’t allowed. That’s the sort of situation that discussion and empathy was invented for. That’s my point.
I vote for the Awful Alphabet. I am a complete masochist, and love awful manga to the core of my being. And I’m always interested in the “one man’s trash” phenomenon. Reading about why people hate a series is infinitely fascinating to me.
